5 LGBT friendly wedding venues in Sydney

15/04/2021

I have put together our 5 favourite Sydney LGBT friendly wedding venues where I have photographed same sex weddings. Read all about it for inspiration below

I have been a wedding photographer for just over 15 years in Sydney. In those years I have certainly been to some beautiful venues for ceremonies and reception.  Being gay myself and Australia eventually now joining many other countries to legalise same sex marriages, its been an honour to be invited by many gay and lesbian couples to be their wedding photographer.
Planning a wedding is no easy task. There are so many moving parts.  You need to find celebrants, cakes,  flowers etc and above all else a wedding venue. My couples tell me that choosing spots for your same-sex wedding ceremony and reception are among the most challenging pieces of the puzzle of planning the perfect wedding.

Sydney is home to a variety of beautiful venues, making it a top choice for weddings. You should take the time to explore the many LGBT-friendly wedding venues available to you in Sydney. Below I have listed my favourite LGBT wedding venues the city of Sydney has to offer and I have personally photographed weddings at all of them.   I am lucky to be a Sydney gay photographer.

1 – Dunbar House Watsons Bay

Situated in beautiful Watsons Bay in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, Dunbar House has hosted a multitude of same sex weddings since they were legalised in 2017 . Dunbar House is one of Australia’s oldest standing structures, which was built in the 1830’s. This amazing heritage home is a Sydney landmark destination that has been restored and offers a sophisticated, fully licensed café which plays hosts to many weddings. The service at Dunbar house is faultless.

Ceremonies can be hosted under the iconic Moreton Bay fig tree directly outside Dunbar House on the lower lawn and we have great recommendations in choosing the perfect celebrant to marry you both

This impressive establishment is one of Sydney’s best kept secrets.

2 – Poolside Cafe at Andrew Boy Charlton Pool

This venue has it all ! breathtaking harbourside views, a modern Italian menu, the finest wines, and LGBT friendly staff. The Sydney gay community have been great fans of this seasonal swimming venue for decades and its no surprise that they can now host their weddings here.

We had the pleasure to capture Niall and Chris’s wedding here. Their guests were treated to a cocktail style reception and they did not have far to walk from where the couples intimate ceremony was held in The Royal Botanical Gardens. Reading the may reviews from Sydney Gay and Lesbian couples who have been married here, this venue does not disappoint and we agree with them totally

3 – Park Hyatt Sydney

The Sydney Park Hyatt is a harbourside hotel and is situated between the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge in the historic Rocks neighbourhood. With uninterrupted Sydney Harbour views its without doubt Sydney’s most spectacular venue when it comes to LGBT friendly wedding venues.

I have had the pleasure to have photographed several Gay and Lesbian weddings here and the high class appointment of all their venues on offer here are world class. Check out the images below to see what we mean

4- 3 Blue Ducks in Rosebery

The 3 Blue Ducks nestles in a converted industrial warehouse. This unique venue has become an establishment for our Gay and Lesbian community to hold their weddings here. This beautiful venue consists a unique indoor or outdoor design that can be transformed into a wedding wonderland. We had the pleasure to capture Steve and Claus’s wedding here

We all know well that the Sydney’s LGBT weddings love unique architecture to host their big day and this place has it all. Its romantically rustic and features exposed beams, super high ceilings, stripped back walls and concrete floors. The mural, hanging chandeliers and indoor plants, bring out the warmer elements to the industrial space. See what we mean with the images below.

5- Zest at Point Piper

We’ve saved the best for last! Another beautiful venue that supports and welcomes same sex marriage in Sydney is Zest. Located at the upmarket Royal Motor Yacht Club at Point Piper its, only minutes from the city and commands a stunning position over Sydney’s beautiful Rose Bay.

The Beachouse, one of the event spaces at Zest Point Piper offers stylish Hamptons beach house theming, elegant oyster shell feature walls, fresh limewash timber floors and soft lighting accents. We had the pleasure to capture Lachlan and Carl’s beautiful wedding here.
